ABOUT CAT
NOW PART OF RISDMADE (www.risdmade.com), a website hosting RISD alumni.
Carol Anne Teague (Cat) Wiseman, a RISD grad so old she remembers when "cut and paste" meant using an exacto blade and rubber cement, has had a long and checkered design career. However, since 2000 she has concentrated on ribbons and fabric and sold her work in craft shows from Camden, Maine to Lincoln Center in New York, as well as on Etsy. She currently works on fabric collages in her converted garage/studio overlooking the Providence River in Pawtuxet Village (Cranston), RI.
ARTIST'S STATEMENT
Most of my life after art school was spent earning a living as a display designer and freelancing. I've been a calligrapher, stencil designer, textile designer (West Africa), jewelry designer (India), ribbon weaver, and finally a fabric collagist. I've always been attracted to quilts, for their color and pattern, and also to strange vintage photos and graphic images. The combination of photos and fabric seems to be a happy pairing, now found in many contemporary quilts and sometimes fabric collage. Images of women in the Belle Epoque especially interest me: how women are depicted so oddly is fascinating. Also, art should be fun. And funny.
